One of the things about getting older is that it seems if you want to feel young you have to stay in great shape. That’s why I and my wife try to make sure that we eat right and stay healthy. As we age we see a marked difference in how friends are compared to us.

That’s right we put a room in our home that is strictly one that we workout in. Buying used and new equipment, we saved a bunch of money. It gives us everything we need to keep looking good and feeling great. Adding up the gym costs and the gas to get there, well we saved quite a bit.

Not only that, but heading to the gym often enough, well it just wouldn’t happen. We love the fact that we have the stuff needed here at home to keep us in shape. Sperm count is greatly affected by certain factors like frequent marijuana use or intake of prescription medicine such as nitrofurantoin, cimetidine and spironolactone.

Being Female

Scarring from STDs, hormonal imbalances, ovulation dysfunction, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, poor nutrition, pelvic infection, tumors, and fallopian tube abnormality are examples of “female factors.” These are responsible for 40 to 50% of infertility in couples.

Around 10 to 30% of infertility cases are attributed to risk factors from both male and female and other unknown causes.

It is projected that just 10 to 20% fail to get pregnant after trying for one year. It is very important for couples to try having a baby for at least 12 months.

Age Sensitive Causes

Healthy partners both below 30 years of age having intercourse regularly only have a 25 to 30% probability every month to become pregnant. Women in their 20s are at the peak of their fertility. The likelihood of pregnancy for women above 35 years old is less than 10% each month, even less for those beyond 40 years old.

Other Non Age-Related Factors

Factors related to age are not the sole reasons for infertility. Infertility may also be increased due to the following:

* Having had sex with more than one partner
* STDs
* Pelvic inflammatory disease history
* Males with history of orchitis or epididymitis
* Males who’ve had mumps
* Varicocele in males
* A history that includes exposure to DES
* Eating disorders in females
* Irregular menstruation and anovulation
* Endometriosis
* A blockage in the cervix or uterine defects
* Long-term disease like diabetes
